Impact of Acculturation on Minoan Civilization Formation

Abstract
The article deals with the issues related to the formation of the Minoan civilization. Based on the data of archaeology, paleogenetics, linguistics, historical geography, conclusions were made that the development of Minoan civilization should be considered in the context of acculturation of the pre-Indo-European substrate by two waves of Indo-Europeans, with the change of dominant ethnic groups. It was shown that its formation can be divided into three main stages associated with different waves of migrants: the pre-Indo-European, the Indo-European I of the Protopalatial period, associated with the Luwian-Lycians, and the Indo-European II of the Neopalatial period, associated with carriers close to the Vinkovci culture. On the basis of the material considered, conclusions are drawn that acculturation may have been of primary importance in the formation of Minoan culture, in view of the multiethnicity of Crete and the specifics of the formation of the Minoan Thalassocracy. Justifications are given that the vocabulary of Linear A writing could be fundamentally Indo-European, but enriched with borrowings from other languages.
