Ethnographic Research of the People of Siberia and Practice of Museum Work in the Scientific Heritage of P.I. Karalkin
Abstract
The period of formation of the Soviet ethnographic school and the questions of studying and development of languages of the people of Siberia in 1920-1930 is one of the least developed subjects in the history of Russian ethnology. The appeal to archives of the researchers who were engaged in the solution of these problems helps to understand features of the processes of modernization of a lifestyle of natives of Siberia. P.I. Karalkin's materials contain unique data on the system of training of research and educational personnel from the small nationalities of Siberia; ethnographic studying of Southern Siberia areas and development of museum studies. A considerable part of scientific heritage of the scientist had not been introduces into scientific circulation yet. The article presents the memoirs of the scientist which are stored in the archive of the Krasnogorsk regional museum of the Altai Territory. The data inform on the formation of system of training specialists for ethnographic work; studying of a traditional way of life of Siberian people; development of national ABC-books and creation of the museum in Abakan. The article provides unique data on religious representations and ceremonies of the Kumandins.
