Technical and Technological Analysis of the Ceramic Complex in the Settlements Tsygankova Sopka-I, III
Abstract
The article deals with the ceramic complex of the settlements Tsygankova Sopka I, III. The ceramics is considered to correspond to the traditions of the Irmen culture of Western Siberia. The authors distinguish four types of pottery; give the general characteristic of the ornamentation. On the basis of the technicaltechnological analysis it is found that molding compositions compounds used in both settlements followed the tradition to add gravel into the molding compound, as it is represented in the compounds in larger amounts, both in number of samples, and in concentration. However, substantial differences arise due to the fact that Tsygankova Sopka-III does not demonstrate the compounds with the mineral admixture of chamotte, and in most cases (except for one) the concentration of chamotte was low (1: 5, and less). Consequently, in the settlement Tsygankova Sopka-III the tradition of adding gravel is expressed more clearly, while in Tsygankova Sopka-I there is the residual effect of the chamotte tradition. The analysis showed that while maintaining the general pattern of the Irmen ceramic ornamentation, the settlements Tsygankova Sopka present a significant effect of different culture component which is reflected in the tradition of adding gravel to the molding composition.
