The Non-Commissioned Officers of the Russian Army of the Middle 19th — the Beginning of the 20th Century
Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the origin, formation and significance of the non-commissioned officer corps in the Russian army of the middle of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th century. Relevance of the work is determined by the importance of the army in Russian history, modern challenges facing Russia which determines the necessity of reference to the historical experience of the organization of the army life. The aim of this work is to examine the formation, functioning and significance of the noncommissioned officer corps in the Russian army in the perrevolutionary period. Preparation, training and education of personnel in the army has always been a difficult task in military construction. Noncommissioned officers since its inception played an important role in the training of the lower ranks of the military, maintaining order and discipline, education, moral and cultural upbringing. In our view, it is difficult to overestimate the importance of the corps of the noncommissioned officers in the Russian army during the mid-19th – the early 20th century, when they had to tackle a double challenge – act as an assistant officer and the nearest commander for lower ranks, especially in the years of harsh military trials. The historical experience of the creation, functioning and improvement of the Institute of noncommissioned officer corps shows its great value in military construction and requires further study.
