The Organization and Activity of Credit Partnerships in the Resettlement Areas of the Steppe Krai at the Beginning of the 20th Century (Based on the Materials of the Semipalatinsk Region)
Abstract
Based on archival material and published sources, the article considers the organization and activity of credit partnerships in the resettlement areas of the Steppe Krai at the beginning of the 20th century. Special attention is focused on the Semipalatinsk region, as the largest territory in the region that adopted the migrants. Credit partnerships in the Steppe region were small in size compared to partnerships in the inner provinces of the Empire. Establishing of the credit partnerships in the Semipalatinsk region started in 1906. Their activities were important in the autumn-spring period, because when selling the crop, a short-term loan in partnerships institutions of small loans freed the borrower from the need to resort to an expensive and unprofitable private loan, and also kept from the hasty and unprofitable sale of agricultural products, providing the opportunity with the replacement of manual labor by machine labor to quickly and cheaply harvest bread.Special attention is paid to the bread title loans in the partnership institutions of small loans. Bread title loans provided an opportunity to sell it at a better price. To provide food for the settlers in the settlements, loan stores were created.
