Methods to Study Occupational Mobility of the Population of Tobolsk (Based on the Population Census of 1897)
Abstract
The article presents an overview of the main techniques to identify and study the population of Tobolsk professional mobility at the end of the 19th century. Of particular interest in the context of the examination of professional mobility are the materials of the First General Census of Population in 1897. The emphasis is made on the use of primary census data presented in the form of a database that allows one to implement new methods of statistical information analysis. The line sampling of the "fatherson" data was taken for the study. The article describes three methods of detection and analysis of occupational mobility. The first is based on the distribution of fathers and sons in groups HISCO classes. The basis of the second technique was the association of HISCO professional groups in accordance with the scope of activities. The third method was to analyze the data of individual occupations ( the proposed article analyzed the most numerous professions of various HISCO professional groups). The results of the data comparing obtained in the course of the individual methods of analysis, made it possible to establish the fact of Tobolsk professional mobility of the population and determine its character. The analysis of individual activities / professions allowed identifying the most and least mobile of them.
