Abstract

The topic of political exile to Siberia is one of the most significant and relevant issues in contemporary historical scholarship. The current complexity of international relations highlights the need to turn to the historical experience accumulated through centuries of interaction among the peoples of different nations. In this context, the study of the conditions of coexistence among representatives of various nationalities and religious denominations in Siberia is of particular interest. This article examines the presence of members of the Catholic clergy in Western Siberia during the 1880s and the early 20th century. These individuals had been exiled for their participation in the Polish national liberation movement of the 1860s. The study explores their numbers, places of residence, material conditions, and occupations, supplemented by biographical information. Catholic priests served in local churches (kostyols), engaged in educational and missionary activities, and provided moral support and unity to the Polish community in Siberia, thereby exerting a noticeable influence on the region’s social and cultural life.
