Military-Patriotic Education of the Population in Kemerovo in the 1930s

Abstract

The article considers the problems associated with the development in the 1930s in Kemerovo physical culture movement, sports and public participation in mass defense work, which were important conditions for the military-patriotic education of the Soviet people on the eve of the Great Patriotic War. The relevance of the topic at the beginning of the 21st century is obvious against the background of the strengthening of the aggressive policy of the United States and its allies in the world. The presence of foreign policy challenges makes it necessary to pay attention to the experience of mobilization of society, including in the years before the war. The author, based on the analysis of numerous archival documents and local press materials, proves that in the period under consideration, despite some difficulties, the level of organization of military-patriotic education of the population of Kemerovo steadily increased. This was facilitated by the work of local authorities with the masses, strengthening the material base of the physical culture movement and the growth of the number of its participants. A system of training of citizens in the elements of civil defense and military affairs was formed. Under these conditions, a patriotic attitude was formed in the public consciousness in case of necessity to be ready to stand up in defense of the Fatherland.
