Educational Institutions in Mariinsk during the White Siberia (June 1918 — November 1919)

Abstract
The article studies the situation of educational institutions in Mariinsk during the period of the so-called White Siberia (June 1918 — November 1919). The paper considers the key problems facing the educational institutions of the city during the period of social crisis. They included the following: the cantonment of troops in the premises of gymnasiums and schools; fuel crisis, which was expressed in the lack of firewood and kerosene, necessary for heating and lighting of school premises; low salaries of teachers and its disproportionality with the monthly rising prices in the local market. The author describes the measures taken by the city authorities and the management of educational institutions to overcome the crisis, one of which was the organization and holding of charity evenings and performances to raise funds. The author concludes that these problems could not be solved until the fall of the Whites’ power in the city in December of 1919, and suggests that these crisis phenomena may have had a negative impact on the learning process and students' comprehension of the program as a whole.
