Odintsovo Culture Dwellings of the Mid 5th to the End of the 6th Century (Based upon the Materials of the Maliy Gonbinskiy Cordon Hill-Fort 2/6-2)
Abstract
The article is devoted to the Odintsovo culture dwellings of the mid 5th to the end of the 6th century A.D. studied on the Maliy Gon'binskiy Cordon hill-fort 2/6-2. The site is located on the Barnaul — Biysk Near-Ob' region on the high terrace of the right riverbank. During the research of the site by the Altai State University Expedition in 1993, most of the site's territory was excavated, but the materials have not been introduced into scientific use yet.
As a result of the analysis of the studied obj ects, the signs were identified, which allow to select dwellings from the totality recorded during archaeological excavations of buildings. These features include the presence of the pit and its shape, the area of construction, the remains of the hearth, the planigraphic fit of the object into the existing system of housing accommodation on the square of the settlement. Of the 30 buildings fixed at the settlement of MGK - 2 / 6-2, 14 objects were attributed to the housing structures. By planigraphy dwellings are divided into two groups. The first group consists of seven closely located pits, adjoined at the terrace border. The second group, also consisted of seven pits, is located along the moat- rampart line. All fixed ditches of dwellings had a sub square shape and an area ranging from 25 to 78 sq. m. Dwellings are semi-earthen log structures with self-supporting frame roofs. The dwellings were heated by one hearth. In most cases, the entrance was not recorded, however, most likely it was sent to the center of the settlement. The material, recorded in the dwellings is mainly represented by various shafts and clusters of ceramics, as well as single fragments of animal and stone tools. New data on the housing complex of the ancient citysettlement MGK — 2/6-2 significantly supplement the sources of information on the study of the early medieval history of the Barnaul-Biysk Near-Ob region.
